Should I Dress Up for Remote Work?

Authors

A New Era

Should I dress up for my remote job?

ABSOLUTELY!

But what does it mean to dress up? Many of us don't have a "dress code" anymore and we are left wondering how we should best present ourselves.

OR

You took my initial approach and found the coziest pair of sweats, tee-shirt and kept a collared shirt on the ground for the occasional zoom call.

For the last few years, this has worked for me.

But I was curious.

I could understand why dressing up would make a difference when you are in front of people every day.

But would it make a difference at home?

Micro Goal

I decided to find out and focus my weekly micro goal on simply getting ready each day.

I styled my hair, kept my beard trimmed, and put more thought into what I was wearing.

I spent time researching different styles and what would fit me best.

I didn't expect much but it made a HUGE difference. Looking back on the week I carried myself quite differently.

I thought about myself in a more positive light.

I acted more professionally with colleagues and got a lot more done.

It also carried into my personal life. I was more productive after work and didn't lounge around as much as I usually do. (After dinner I usually fall on the couch for 30 - 87 mins)

Dressing well, whatever that might mean to you does make an impact.

I've found that it is a MULTIPLIER and I will continue to make looking my best a high priority.
